Sinopsis: Año 1400, en algún lugar de Europa, el gnomo Rumpelstilskin ha arrebatado un bebé a su madre. Perseguido y acorralado, una bruja consigue encerrar el alma del monstruo en una piedra y la arroja al fondo del océano. El temible Rumpelstilskin vuelve a aparecer muchos años después, en la época actual, en plena ciudad de Los Ángeles, donde Shelly acaba de perder a su marido, un policía abatido a tiros en acto de servicio. Shelly tiene por delante la dura tarea de sobreponerse al dolor y criar sola a su hijo recién nacido. Un día compra en un anticuario una extravagante piedra y, sin querer, Shelly será la encargada de invocar de nuevo al horrible Rumpelstilskin y poner así en serio peligro la vida de su hijo.
