Sinopsis: Frank Horrigan (Clint Eastwood) es un veterano escolta, que conoció tiempos mejores cuando llegó a ser guardaespaldas del Presidente Kennedy. Muchos años después, a punto de retirarse, está atravesando una crisis profesional y personal, pero decide volver al servicio de la Casa Blanca cuando en una investigación rutinaria descubre que un psicópata llamado Mitch Leary (John Malkovich) está amenazando de muerte al Presidente de los Estados Unidos. El presidente recibe unas 1400 amenazas cada año, pero estas parecen creíbles y provenientes de un tipo peligroso.
