Sinopsis: Acusado de un acto de desobediencia que tuvo fatales consecuencias, el venerado general Irwin, un héroe de guerra, es sometido a un consejo de guerra, degradado y encerrado en una prisión militar conocida como 'La fortaleza'. Allí pronto se convierte en el punto de mira del alcaide, el coronel Winter, un hombre de carácter autoritario que comienza a sentirse acomplejado ante el carisma de Irwin con los reclusos.
