Sinopsis: Gloucester (Massachussetts), octubre de 1991. El Andrea Gail es un barco capitaneado por Billy Tyne, un veterano pescador cuyas últimas salidas se han saldado con paupérrimas capturas. Buscando un golpe de suerte que haga cambiar esta mala racha, se interna en el Flemish Cap, un lugar más allá de las zonas frecuentadas por los pescadores... ignorando las horribles condiciones climatológicas que hay por allí.
