Sinopsis: En un Nueva York dominado por el crimen y la corrupción, el gángster John Martin se ha hecho con el control del mercado de los muelles y obliga a los transportistas a pagarle un canon por su "protección". Denny Jordan es un camionero que se niega a pagar dicho impuesto, a pesar de los problemas que ello puede ocasionarle tanto a él como a su joven esposa embarazada. Un abogado le ayudará en su lucha contra Martin, a fin de llevar a éste frente a la justicia.
